Medicare is made up of different parts — and knowing which ones you need can help you build the right coverage for your situation.
Part A helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and some home health care. Most people get Part A premium-free if they’ve worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years.

Part B helps cover doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, lab tests, and medical equipment. Part B has a monthly premium and most people should enroll when they’re first eligible to avoid penalties.

Part D helps cover the cost of prescription medications. You can add Part D if you stay with Original Medicare, or you may get drug coverage bundled in a Medicare Advantage plan.
